Portrait of Eleanor Roosevelt

Reverse

The reverse design of the coin was inspired by a quote from Adlai Stevenson following her death: “She would rather light a candle than curse the darkness, and her glow has warmed the world.” The design features a depiction of Mrs. Roosevelt’s hand lighting a candle with the glow from its light rising over a stylized graphic of the Earth’s horizon to symbolize her life’s work and the global impact of her humanitarian initiatives.

About this coin’s value

The 10 Dollars (Eleanor Roosevelt; Bullion Coinage) contains 0.5000 troy ounces of gold (100.0% fine, 15.554 g gross). Its melt value above is that metal content multiplied by the live spot price — the floor any dealer offer should be judged against. Collector value for better dates, mint marks and grades comes on top of melt, so check before selling scarce coins as bullion.

To value a whole stack at once, use the US Gold Coin Calculator. The formula behind the number is explained in our pre-1933 US gold guide, and where to sell covers what buyers actually pay against melt.
